FAQ NZ Level 5 Diploma in Early Childhood Education & Care
To apply for this programme, you must:
- be at least 17 years old (or 18 years old if you are an international student with the minimum entry requirement being Academic IELTS Level 5.5 with no score lower than 5)
- provide a Confidential Referee Report (which cannot be from a family member or friend)
- provide evidence that you will be working with children in an early childhood service. We are happy to help you with your placement in a centre.
- pass a children’s worker safety check as required under the Children’s Act 2014, including police vetting
- have NCEA Level 3 (including 10 literacy credits at Level 2 and 10 numeracy credits at Level 1) – if you do not have NCEA Level 3 or its equivalent, we will consider your application on a case-by-case basis.
For the first 28 weeks, you will study 15hrs per week. You will then go on to complete 8 weeks of full time study at 35hrs per week including your practical placement at an Early Childhood Education Centre. The Level 5 ECE course is a total of 60 hours completed over 40 weeks.
We are now taking applications for 2023. The First Semester of 2023 begins in February next year.
To secure your course of choice, the earlier you apply, the better. The last day to submit applications for our 2023 intake is 1st of December, 2022.

To apply for this programme, you must:
- complete a NZ Level 5 Diploma in Early Childhood Education prior to application.
- provide evidence that you will be working with children in an early childhood service. We are happy to help you with your placement in a centre.
